A Very Merry Christmas (With Copics!)

Hello all!

From the title of the post, you may have forseen that this is my very first time (and post) I used Copics. Many papercrafters have been using alcohol-based Copic Sketch Markers and have been loving them, as well, due to their soft blending properties and vivid coverage.

To start off, I ordered a lot of 25 new Copic Markers from Simon Says Stamp and have been enjoying working with them! Today's card happens to be a Christmas card (sooo out of season) and the stamp set  I used is Inkadidnkado CHRISTMAS CHARACTERS.

First off, I cut, scored, and folded a piece of Bazzill CHERRY SPLASH Cardstock. Next, I used VERSAMARK Ink to stamp a subtle background with the snowflakes stamp in the stamp set. After that, I punched and adhered a scalloped edge using the Fisakars SCALLOPED SENTIMENT Edge Punch out of some patterned paper from a BasicGrey NORDIC HOLIDAY 6x6 Paper Pad. Then, I wrapped some brown ribbon on top of the scallop edge.

For the coloring part, I stamped the image of Santa on some Bazzill COCONUT SWIRL Cardstock (The cardstock seems to work pretty well, but it does bleed htrougn a bit.) using Tsukineko Brilliance GRAPHITE BLACK Ink (I prefer Brilliance over Memento because it's a pigment ink, so the image is sharper. When using Brilliance, be sure to give ample time to dry.). I used the Copic Sketch Markers in the following colors: R29, R32, YG63, YG03, Y17, E02. E11, and, W3. As you can see, I put more layers of color in the same place to add shadow. In addition, I used the Warm Grey No.3 to add shadows on the white as well.

Tip: If some of the color goes outside the lines use a white gel pen to hide the mistakes.

After I finished coloring the image, I used an oval die to die cut the image in a slant using my Sizzix  BIG SHOT and adhered it using dimensional adhesive. Then, on another piece of red cardstock, I stamped the sentiment, once again using VERSAMARK Ink, dusted some Stampendous DETAIL WHITE Embossing Powder, and melted it using a heat gun (I didn't have the patience to wait unti the versamark from the background was dry, so I embossed it on a separate piece). To finish the card off, I punched a heart from the Stampin' Up SMALL HEART Punch out of the same paper from that BasicGrey NORDIC HOLIDAY Paper Pad, adhered it to the card with dimensional adhesive, and added Inkssentials GLOSSY ACCENTS.
